Cost
Let's cut to the chase and talk money. The cost of building a super yacht (and for reasons of health and safety I ask you, hold on to your chin for fear it may plummet into your tea and scald you) is approximately one million pounds for every metre built. The math is not complicated. The sum, however, is mind-boggling. Maintaining any boat is not cheap. It's a labour of love. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Design
Boat and yacht interior design is much like any other interior design - you need a thoroughly comprehensive understanding of your environment and its implications, a grasp of your own likes and dislikes and a list of suppliers and trades people who you can rely on to deliver the goods.

The first design question is always - what is the room, garden, product, super yacht or dinghy going to be used for? What do you want to use your boat for? Lifestyle
There are two very different boating worlds, one of floating staterooms, marble bathrooms, Grand pianos and libraries with owner decks, sun decks and bridge decks and the other world where storage is everything and if it can't be pinned down to something then it can't come on board. In either world however, you still need to consider how many people you would like to seat comfortably and what look and feel you are trying to convey. Be it in a dining salon or on a folding table in the cockpit.
Look & Feel
A boat's interiors can be as simple or as designer savvy as anything else (namely your home) and the look is really down to you. Most modern designs use white and beige as the general scheme as the light colouring gives the impression of more space. Bear in mind that white will scuff and dirty quickly however. For the nautically minded, stripes, Union Jacks and checks work well however, there is no legal requirement to use blue and white on board. Your license will not be revoked. So be bold and express yourself on the river as you do in your home.
Practical Considerations
Some basic design considerations to bear in mind when it comes to designing the interior of your boat or yacht - water resistance, erosion caused by the elements, odd-shaped cushions, supercharged fasteners and zips, port and starboard boarding ladders. Flooring
Tiling and carpet specialists can advise on suitable flooring which is surprisingly unlimited. The right adhesive is the only serious consideration as well as the weight of the product, which can be dependent on the size of the boat. That being said, marble and mosaics are perfectly usable in the right yacht and for those with less space there are vinyl alternatives that have the look and feel of teak or stone.
Flexibility
Flexible functionality is another key consideration when it comes to any small space and on boats in particular, and therefore chairs that swivel, dual function items - seats that disguise sinks, doors that fold into tables - and in-fills are all very important to the boat owner. It's a multi-functional world is life on the water.
