Staying Healthy in Your Busy World

Eating healthy for one person might mean illness or death for another person. The key to eating healthy is always first knowing what your body is allergic to and what your body reacts well to. So no one can say that eating this or that is healthy for everyone because everyone has different allergies or reactions to certain foods. The writer of this article is not a doctor or professional counselor so I suggest that you consult a doctor or professional before changing any of your eating habits or before changing your diet. This article is for information purposes only and not to take the place of any professional counseling. Only do what is safe and healthy for you.

White Ladder Shelf

These are some suggestions for eating healthy:

White Ladder Shelf

Eat fruits and vegetables as much as possible. Supplement your diet with good fruit juices. Refrain from smoking or doing damaging self-destruction actions (Refrain from illegal drug abuse and alcohol abuse). Take a good multi-vitamin and take needed supplements as recommended by your doctor or nutritionist. Drink lots of water (but do not overdo it). Drink the healthy water (nothing added). Some flavored waters are good but you need to check ingredients and see that there are no extra additives that you do not need. Leave the smoke to the chimneys and avoid smokers. Do not allow smoking in your apartment, home, or in your presence. If someone begins smoking near you, walk away and explain later. You owe no one explanations when it comes to you breathing in clean, fresh air. There is one more thing that will keep you healthy and I will explain that towards the end of the article. If you must eat meat, have a few meatless days each and every week. Even those that cannot be vegetarians can be healthier if they refrain at least two or three days a week from eating meat. Read! Yes, read to stay healthy! Read positive books. Read books by Wayne W Dyer; read Mr. Rogers, Read Og Mandino. Read hobby books about art, photography, tennis, exercise, and hundreds of other topics.
Everything you do each day affects your health and your well-being. As you begin to eat better, you will notice that you will sleep better and you will think better. So, begin a short, slow exercise program if you do not have one. A program can be a simple thing such as beginning a walk every day around your block and expanding from there. If you can afford to join a gym then do that. During the summer, go to the parks where they have the exercise bars (for adults), and do your walking program there.

Watch good, healthy television programs:

Take in only what brings you good health. If you find yourself feeling bad after a certain television program and you want to feel better, then make it a rule for you that you will not watch that show that gives you bad feelings.

Remove negative spirits from your life:

Last but never least, one of the most easiest ways to stay healthy is to remember that you are a wonderful person ,and therefore, leave outside of your body, mind and soul any remarks from lesser persons. Staying healthy physically means that you need to be healthy in emotions also. So, get rid of all the emotionally unhealthy things besides taking the physically unhealthy actions, foods or drinks out of your life. In other words, if there are bullies in your life, or if there are people who were trying to control you, whether those be verbal or physical abusers or just plain ignorant people who have nothing better to do, remember that it is not important what they think, not important what they do and not important how they feel or what they say. The sooner you put negative people out of your life and out of your world, the sooner you will be happier. Taking abuse out of your life is one of the sure-fire ways to relieve stress. So, remember that at all times, and just say no to abuse -of any kind, including to verbal abuse. Verbal abuse is the beginning of domestic violence.

Add Great Emotional Health To Your Day: There is a way to combat all of the negative things that you see or hear or experience in one day or week. It is simple to do, and most times it is free. This remedy is available to you , any time of day or night. Looking for such a solution? Read. Yes, that is the answer, just read. Go to your library and get some of these books to help you conquer the incoming negativity that you might experience in large cities across America, and across the globe:

The Sky's The Limit - Wayne W. Dyer, Ph.D. Your Erroneous Zones - Wayne W. Dyer, Ph.D. Born To Win - (Do the research online to find this book). The Feeling Good Book - (Research it). The Four Agreements - Miguel Ruiz God Is In Control - Charles Stanley
Using these books as your weekly reading material can help change your world into a world with unlimited possibilities. Check out any one of those books and you will see a life-changing experience happen right in front of your eyes. You will feel better and you will begin to eliminate negative vibes, thoughts, words and actions from your own lifestyle.

That is another way of staying healthy in your very, busy world.

Last, but not least, one of the best ways to stay healthy is to stay out of nursing homes and physical rehabilitation and care centers. I have discovered, through a friend, that some of these places are making the residents more ill than they were when they entered the places. So, prepare your life in such a way that you do not have to end up in a nursing home or in a physical rehabilitation and care center.

Here are some helpful hints:

Be careful of falls, because that is the way that many wind up in those places. Never overreach on a ladder, and be careful where you walk. Go slow. Nature tells us, as we age, to go slow. Many falls and accidents happen solely because the person was in a hurry. So, slow down. Eat healthy and maintain healthy habits. Do not smoke or stop smoking. Do not abuse alcohol or drugs. Using these guidelines will make you healthier. Use all the at-home aids you can use to avoid nursing homes. For example, make sure that you have your glasses, hearing aids and other home-health aids at your side. Buy a grippers, a "Gopher" to help you reach things on high shelves. Doing this helps you avoid falls from ladders. Have a cellular phone even if you think that you do not need one. If necessary, if you have major medical problems and you live at home, use a lifeline service to help you.
Do whatever you can legally do to stay out of rehabilitation and care centers and out of nursing homes. You will be healthier and happier if you can live your life without these places. Go slow, pay attention to your life and your health. Do it for you.

Getting to Know Modern Room Design

Among young professionals, modern design is most probably a very popular style. These working young men and women do not want to worry about dusting the small grooves of intricate ornate designs. Also, they do not want to mess with chaos and clutter. They hate any bunch of knickknacks that are sitting everywhere. Organization and straight lines are in.

White Ladder Shelf

Modern Style defined

White Ladder Shelf

Modern rooms today tend to have plain, straight furniture that are often in black or dark wood tones. The darker colors of the room give it a sophisticated and classy appeal. Generally, there would be a few decorative items that are sitting on the nearby tables. But instead, the modern design will only have a few select pieces displayed prominently in a room.

People who like this modern style often have a tendency to spend a lot of their money only on a few special or unique items, rather than to spend it on plenty of smaller items.

For example, you may spend a small fortune on a vase that is made of Venetian glass. This quality item may be the only one you put in the center of the dining room table.

Create the Modern look

Aside from black, modern rooms may also tend to use greens, reds, and whites (stark colors). These popular colors pose a classic and interesting backdrop to the special items accessorizing the room. In addition, they also emphasize the furniture's straight lines.

Another popular technique that you can do is to paint different colors (large blocks) on the walls. For example, you have a pattern of white or black blocks that are traveling diagonally from one corner to the other (in a room). The shelves can be placed along these blocks so that the special pieces are displayed against a white or black backdrop.

The style of modern rooms follows this motto: the fewer accessories you put, the better. This means that blankets will not be tossed around chairs or across couches; there are no ottomans or baskets littering the floor. The focus rather, will be on a few pieces of large furniture - it has the slight possibility having a matching floor cushion or a couple of little side tables for the drinks.

Modern design: not for young children?

Modern look is sleek, classic, and tastefully decorated. Many young professionals adore this style so much that they host parties and yet keep the area clean.

However, if you have children, your modern room design might be lost in the sea of toys scattered in your floor. Also, this style appears to be less cozy compared to the others. As such, children may not feel comfortable.

As for you, you may find yourself running after your children at all times to prevent having small handprints smudged in your furniture or to prevent breaking of your nice items.

So if you want a true modern look, you should create this design either before having children or after getting them out of the house. As an alternative, you can have one room (off limits to young children) where you can store all your breakable or expensive items - this room can be considered as your modern getaway.

Time Saving Techniques For Complying With EPA'S Remodeling Lead Safe Work Practices Mandate

If remodeling contractors aren't already aware, the game has changed due to a new federal mandate. Contractors remodeling homes pre 1978 must have lead safe training by April 22nd 2010 and comply with the regulation. These lead safe work practices can be a daunting and time consuming task for inexperienced remodeling contractor. The extra man hours can add up on a given project and consume profits. This article attempts to give some insiders "tricks of the trade" from a former lead abatement contractor to help reduce man hours and keep material costs down while complying with the new mandate.

White Ladder Shelf

Plastic sheeting is your friend. Known as "poly" to abatement contractors, it covers your work area and makes for quick clean-up. Always purchase clear poly. As suggested by the EPA standards, cover the floor at least 6 feet out and construct walls with 4 or 6 mil. In addition, place a sizeable scrap of the heavier poly in the middle of the work area before covering the floor. This scrap will come in handy during tear down.

White Ladder Shelf

The author has found 12' widths are most useful. This covers nearly any ceiling height, and accommodates traditional floor plans for most rooms so there's less splicing.

Be sure to have two kinds on hand. Painter's plastic can be used to cover shelves and articles around the room. It's far less expensive and comes in handy for just covering the odds and ends.

Cut a runner from containment to the dumpster before work begins. Make it wide enough to carry supplies and materials. During rainy weather, make sure there is a mat of some kind to wipe workers feet before reentering the house. Poly is very slippery when wet.

Demo materials are often sharp and heavy. This is a problem when bagging the debris as the sharp edges poke holes in the bag and a trail of dust marks your path to the dumpster. A solution and time saver is to have plenty of garbage cans on hand. The trick is to fill the garbage can with the liner inside containment. When full or heavy enough, gooseneck it and leave in the container. The container can then be hauled to the dumpster and disposed of.

When dealing with heavy dense debris, it helps to have a container with wheels, as dragging a heavy garbage can will eventually wear holes in the poly runner. As demo proceeds, the bags should be staged at the doorway within easy reach. The bags or garbage cans should be grabbed from outside containment to save time going in and out of the doorway. Also, have one worker in containment stage the bags by the door and one worker outside that can reach in and grab them.

For a plaster tear out, an old piece of paneling can help workers have a place for the plaster to "land". It's also useful to scoop up the debris and bag. The paneling should be placed finished side up so there is a sealed side to vacuum up or wipe down. Any wood product is fine as long as it's painted or sealed. Open wood is one of the most difficult to clean for lead dust, as the open pores and grain of the natural fiber harbor and lock in the dust. 5 gal buckets can be used for dumping the old broken plaster. Just line them with 6mil small kitchen size bags and carry the bucket to the dumpster.

When work is done, take the walls down first and collapse them gently on the floor poly. Then simply roll up the walls and the floor on the scrap you first laid down to dispose. This scrap catches the inevitable debris that escape from the roll when fitting it in the garbage bag and saves the time of vacuuming. The scrap can now be rolled up and disposed of also. After a contractor gets a few jobs under their belt, set up and tear down should go quickly.

The new EPA standard expects the remodeling contractor to isolate the work area, utilizing temporary poly walls. This is a standard in the abatement industry, and can be done quickly and efficiently no matter what the size or shape of the project.

The method of affixing the containment walls must first be addressed. Many contractors often tape the poly to the ceiling, forming a perimeter around the work area. This is acceptable and common, but has several issues. First and foremost it is very time consuming, also it can be very difficult to attach the tape to a textured ceiling or uneven surface. Due to the weight of the poly, the tape can fail and bring the wall down. The work must then be halted and time taken to reattach it. Finally, upon removal, the tape can peel and destroy the surface it was stuck to. These issues can be costly and add many man hours to a simple project.

Consider extendable poles. These poles are reusable, reducing labor and issues associated with using tape. Often marketed as cargo bars for pickup trucks, these ratcheting poles extend and clamp the poly to the ceiling no matter what the height or surface. The poles also negate the problems of disturbing the wall and tape destroying the surface upon removal. Although prices differ throughout the region, extendable ratcheting poles can be purchased inexpensively.

Plan the containment area by ratcheting the poles in place where the wall will be. Give yourself plenty of room to work, and plan an area by the containment entrance to stage the bagged debris. Once the poles are where you want them, roll out the poly and wrap it around the poles, defining the perimeter and determining the length. Give yourself a little extra, it's no fun trying to stretch poly to the wall.

Having the poly cut to size, start unfolding it at one end to the full width. With a step ladder, take the tension off the first pole and tuck the plastic over the pole. Then ratchet the pole up, trapping the poly between the ceiling and the pole's top foot. Repeat the process going down the length of the wall. Finally, tape the edges to the walls to seal the containment. The time it takes to set up the walls is of course determined by the size of containment but is far less then taping the poly to the ceiling without the issues of tape.

With the walls now complete, the doorway needs to be installed. It is important to limit the dust that migrates but also permits workers egress. Remember that all bags of debris and materials have to pass through so make it big enough. As described before, a staging area should be planned in containment by the door area.

Many times the worker can use an existing door and just attach the poly door to it. A time saver is to make a poly door that is reusable. First, cut a piece to fit over a standard size door. The measurement of the poly should be 38" X 84". Cut the upside down "T" and covering dust flap. Now, apply duct tape around the perimeter and fold over the edges making a "picture frame" around the edge. Duct tape the flap over the "T". The masking tape to attach the poly to the casings can be removed and applied over and over without tearing the poly. At the end of the job, just roll it up for the next project. The reusable door should be able to be installed in 2 or 3 minutes vs. taking 10 to 15 minutes to make a new one every time.

Although white suits are not required by the EPA mandate, they are nice to protect the worker from bringing home the dust after work. Putting on a white suit and removing it after leaving containment is far faster than vacuuming off all the workers clothing, but there are some things to consider.

White suits are sized small, medium, large and extra large. Purchase them at least a size bigger than the workers shirt size. During years of abatement work in white suits the author has found "large" is generally the size used by most, save for the most portly of workers that might need an XL.

During the summer, work in white suits can be very hot. Working in shorts and t shirts is acceptable but the temptation to shed any more clothing should be avoided. White suits are translucent and nobody wants to see more of their fellow worker than need be.

White suits generally come in one piece with footies. These footies tear during work very easily and will be tripping the worker in no time. Since the EPA guidelines are not abatement the footies can be cut off at the ankles and the ends taped with masking tape around the ankle. This will give much more traction and ease of movement.

Negative air is the key to keeping dust from migrating past containment. The importance of an air mover in containment cannot be overstated. It will save the contractor many hours of cleaning the perimeter of the containment due to the inevitable escaping dust through the door. Without proper ventilation, the air inside of containment can get saturated with dust from demo, making the work dangerous and intolerable.

Many companies sell them in a variety of styles and sizes. They can be readily looked up online and be purchased ready to go out of the box. These units can be pricey and the small business owner may consider them out of reach. The author has several units that were all constructed in house costing under 0.00 a piece. The following is a guide to constructing one in house for the small business owner.

Whether purchased or built in house air movers all do the same thing, move air. The higher the air exchange rate, the better but since they are carried to every site, size becomes an issue. The typical width should not exceed 30" and best if the total width is less than 24". Most interior doorways are smaller than the 36" standard entry door. Remember the EPA's mandate is homes pre 1978, and as most remodeling contractors already know older homes doorways can be small. The size of the unit is not as critical as the volume of air it moves per hour with the squirrel cage.

Squirrel cages from residential HVAC systems can normally be purchased cheaply to move the air and are a good choice for an air exchanger. Make sure it is clean and in good working order. The squirrel cage can be mounted to any material of choice, but the unit must be air tight and be able to be wiped down. Wood is fine as long as a quality semi gloss is applied for clean up. Handles and wheels are very useful and should be included; remember the unit has to be portable.

The intake for the dirty air should be filtered to save the squirrel cage from clogging up with dust. Although an exhaust tube can be used to expel the dirty air, there are times when there isn't a nearby window or door to use and the air inside of containment must be expelled indoors. In that situation, the air must be HEPA filtered to remove potential lead dust. A typical home furnace filter unit that holds two standard air filters can be incorporated in the air mover for this issue. The first air filter should be a less expensive model that filters out about 90% of the airborne particles. This filter will save the second expensive HEPA filter behind it from clogging up quickly. It can also be vacuumed off every so often and cleared. The cheaper filter can be thrown away after the job is complete where the expensive HEPA can be reused. After the work is complete, the HEPA should be vacuumed and stored in a clean, sealed plastic bag.

A standard metal duct work fitting can be installed on the air mover to attach the exhaust tube to. The tube is taped to the fitting and exhausted out a window or door. The tube itself can be purchased at an abatement supply house or found online. With the unit caulked and painted it's ready for the first job.

The air scrubber should be mounted to the poly wall. Placing the air scrubber in the containment area gets in the way and the exhaust tube can be tripped over and damaged. Furthermore, the unit will have to be vacuumed and wiped down after every use. A far better and faster way is to attach the air scrubber to the poly wall outside containment. Simply wheel the air scrubber up against the poly wall and with a sharp utility knife, cut around the filter area. Blue tape or masking tape can be used to seal the cut opening to the metal air scrubber's filter housing.

Cabinet Door Hinges - Small But Mighty

Some are shaped like butterflies and others you can't even see. Some open with a pivot and others close automatically. There are many types of cabinet door hinge available, but we often don't even look at them in our own homes. We should because without them our daily lives would be harder.

White Ladder Shelf

Hinges are generally eight to ten times stronger than the job they are assigned. So if your front door was off its hinges you have to have the strength to move it yourself. That is why before the hinge was in use many people entered their homes by climbing up a ladder and going through a hole in the roof.

White Ladder Shelf

Eventually the Romans adapted the hinge from the large sizes used for city gates to a smaller size to use in the home. So, now we have the cabinet door hinge. Available in a vast array of styles and finishes the cabinet door hinge is an important part of any décor. Don't get frustrated bouncing from store to store like a pinball to find the hinges you need. Instead shop online and you'll find the best selection as well as the best prices.

Typically the type of cabinet door hinge you need is dictated by the type of cabinet door you have. There are three types of cabinet door; lipped, flush and overlay. A lipped door has a lip cut all the way around it. A flush door rests within the door frame and an overlay door rests on the door frame.

If you have an overlay door you will need pivot hinges. One is attached to the top and the other to the bottom of a door, and portions of each are recessed into the door and frame creating a concealed hinge. Flush doors commonly use butterfly hinges. These hinges are so named because they look like a butterfly when opened. They consist of two flaps with screw holes held together by a pin. They mount on the outside of the door and jamb or frame for a unique decorative look. You'll find them in multiple styles ranging from colonial to art deco and beyond to suit your personal taste.

Similar to the butterfly hinge but recessed into the doorjamb and frame is the standard butt hinge. Also constructed of two flaps with screw holes held together by a pin or rod, this cabinet door hinge can be used on any of the three door types. Another popular hinge that fits all three doors is a spring-loaded or self-closing hinge. Ideal for the kitchen where cabinets are open and closed often these hinges have a small spring inside that closes the door automatically after it has been opened.

No matter what type of cabinet door hinge and finish you choose you should be happy with the results. A cabinet door hinge may be small and it may be overlooked, but without them we wouldn't have cabinets, we would simply have shelves. And sometimes things are better left hidden behind closed doors.

How to Re-Do Cabinets in the Kitchen

If you want to know how to redo cabinets in the kitchen then you probably are against using a contractor. Much as I recommend finding a good refacing company to do the job for you I will, however, focus on how you can go about doing it on your own.

White Ladder Shelf

It is not necessarily hard to redo cabinets especially If you have the right tools. You simply need to do some plenty of reading i.e. buy a book on installing cabinets or refacing them to use a troubleshoot guide.

White Ladder Shelf

Here are some of the key things to do when you redo cabinets in the kitchen.

1. Find a ladder, you will need this especially when installing the upper cabinets
2. Find a tape measure - you will be doing a lot of measuring.
3. You need to find the high point on the kitchen floor.
4. You need to check for plumpness of the walls in the kitchen
5. Check for things like bowls in walls
6. Then find a way to handle all the findings mentioned above.
7. When installing, start with the lower cabinets and then move upwards
8. You may need to put up a shelf or something that is level to hold the upper cabinets into place.
9. Remember to check for plumpness of walls and bows before you screw in another cabinet.

A word of warning as you learn about how to redo cabinets in kitchen remodeling, make sure that the measurements are just right before you install the counter top and when installing each cabinet. Otherwise you will get frustrated later.

For example, you do not want to realize after installing 5 cabinets that there are some gaps between the cabinets due to a bowl in the wall or the measurements weren't right.

Bathroom Cabinets And Bathroom Furniture

Bathroom furniture is becoming a more common part of any modern bathroom, with almost each new bathroom having at least one piece of furniture or a cabinet to put things in. The type of bathroom furniture that you have is entirely down to your choice and the size you have available. Having a larger bathroom will allow you to have larger furniture such as vanity units and floor standing cabinets which will naturally offer you more storage. If space is a problem then wall hung cabinets could be the way for you, providing you with an ample amount of storage without taking up floor space.

White Ladder Shelf

It is important to measure your bathroom first to see how much space you have available before buying anything. This will prevent you from buying anything which is too big and taking up unnecessary space within your bathroom.

White Ladder Shelf

If you are looking for a simple piece of furniture, items such as a washstand or a simple shelf will provide you with the look and practicality that you need for a fraction of the price that you would pay for larger pieces of furniture.

Bathroom cabinets are the most popular pieces of bathroom furniture and are available in a wide range of styles including backlit cabinets, mirrored cabinets, and heated cabinets making them an ideal multifunctional cabinet perfect for any small bathroom. Choosing a mirrored cabinet means that you are getting two for the price of one, with both the mirror and the cabinet. Having these combined will also mean that more space will be available for other furniture or sanitary ware. Along with the mirrored cabinets there are also extras which may appear on some including lighting or the luxury heated pad.

Larger bathroom furniture such as vanity units which support a basin on the top of the unit with storage underneath. If space is at a premium vanity units are available in larger sizes which will support both a basin and toilet offering even more storage. This type of storage is usually manufacture from wood but is available in a wide range of colours and finishes.

Bathroom furniture comes in a wide range of colours and is usually manufactured from wood or aluminium in the case of wall hung cabinets. There are many different types of wood finishes including: walnut, natural oak and pine with some also been available in bold colours such as high gloss white and gloss red. The colour that you choose for your furniture is entirely down to your choice and the style that you are trying to achieve within your bathroom.

2010 State of the Internet - Video Marketing for Attorneys

Ladies and Gentlemen,

White Ladder Shelf

I give you the State of the Union for Lawyer Video.

White Ladder Shelf

"My fellow attorneys,

The state of affairs for lawyers who create video to market themselves stinks. Truly awful. Video quality has improved but content has gone down the drain. Four years ago the only type of lawyer videos that video companies created were "Look at me!" videos. Those videos simply were one intro video that did nothing more than say "Come to me because I'm great."

Fast forward to the present day and lawyers have made leaps and bounds. Now, many attorneys have gone beyond the bounds of "Ooo, pick me because I'm great" type of videos, to ones that actually inform. However, the information that most attorneys are putting out are not what online viewers want or care about. It's true.

Lawyers still focus on the number of views that each video gets. Video companies sell their services and convince lawyers that their video metrics program is top shelf and can also predict which videos will get viewers to call. Nonsense.

The reality is that metrics don't matter at all. Really, they don't. I have written repeatedly that video metrics are not worth your time to invest in or learn about. The ONLY thing that matters with your online videos is whether your viewer picks up the phone to call you for an appointment. That's it. That's your goal. If your videos are not accomplishing that, you have big problems. The reason that most lawyer video does not work is that most videos fail to provoke a viewer to take action.

In all likelihood you've spent a lot of time and money creating video, either on your own or with a video production company. Have you tracked your return on your investment? That is something definitely worth calculating. You must know at all times what your ROI is.

Let's say you spent ,000 on 5 videos. The production team spent all day in your office and each video, after editing, came to about 1 minute to 1:30 mins. The cost per video in this instance is ,000. The production company might say to you "If you get only one case from a video, the fee you get will have paid not only for that one video, but for all five of your videos." That sure sounds like a line from the yellow pages rep who would visit my office on a yearly basis. She made it sound so convincing when she came in to renew my yellow pages ad that I had a hard time saying no.

For me, I recouped my yellow pages investments, but just barely. Calls were few and far between. I was on page 9 of 11 full page ads. By the time someone got to my ad, they had already been rejected by eight other lawyers.

The video production companies who help lawyers create video have changed their way of creating video. They've moved on from creating a single "intro" video that cost ,000-,000 just a few years ago, to creating multiple videos for around that same price. I've seen some wedding videographers knock the price down to ,500 for 7-10 videos. I always ask those wedding guys if they know who the lawyers' ideal client is? They don't and that's a big problem. They tell me they create broadcast-quality video. I believe them. But that's only half of the equation.

The other, more crucial part is content. It's knowing how to get the videos found in the search engines using white label strategies that are proven and tested. It's not just about creating good technically proficient videos. It's getting the videos recognized; getting a viewer to have enough curiosity and interest to click on your title; getting them to watch your video in its entirety and most importantly, getting that viewer to call or email you after watching that video. If your video production company can't show you, using proven tactics that they have the know-how to do this, then you're paying for something that will look pretty but be nothing more than watching your money evaporate into the internet ether.

Let's turn now to the other side of the coin; attorneys who create video on their own. There are lawyers who think they can master this video thing all by themselves. Some can, but most have not yet been able to do that. Some lawyers don't want to spend the money to shoot video with an experienced video production company. Instead, they want to do it all themselves.

Those are the type of lawyers who would rather climb up a ladder to fix a leaking roof instead of calling a roofing expert. That lawyer will try to fix their broken watch by buying a do-it-yourself fixing book about watches. When the electrical system in the house breaks, that lawyer would rather spend a week learning how to fix the problem himself instead of hiring a certified and qualified professional electrician. This lawyer is the type of person who, when his car breaks down, eagerly spends two weeks fixing his car in his driveway and walking to work, instead of spending the money to bring it into a mechanic and get it done in one day.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great when someone has the ability, desire and time to learn to do things on their own. However, really smart attorneys and business owners realize that the way to make tons of money is to leverage their time with other people's expertise. Here's what I mean. If you are a transactional attorney and you bill at 0 per hour, and it will take you 2 days to edit two hours of video, the amount you could earn doing legal work would be conservatively ,000. Is it worth it to you to spend that time editing your own video instead of earning ,000?

It's always a time/cost trade-off. What if you could hire a video editor to edit those two hours of video for only ,000? Would that be a more cost-effective and economical use of your time? I should think so.

I know there are lawyers out there who think they can become a videographer using their iPhone4, their Flip camera or their Kodak Zi8 and that's great. There are also lawyers out there who think they can become video editors using iMovie or Sony Vegas or Final Cut Express, and that's great too. Then there are still others who believe they can become video distributors and publishers. Good for you. But wait...aren't you still a practicing attorney? How do you have the time to do all that and more? Are you going to be using your skill to create a side-business or are you just going to keep all this information to yourself for your own benefit?

Most lawyers just want to practice law. They don't want to get involved in marketing or video marketing. Rather, they want someone to do it all for them, and that's good too.

So, Mr. or Mrs. Lawyer, where do you stand?

Are you closer to the lawyers who want to do it all themselves, or are you a little closer to the lawyers who want experienced and tested video production experts to do all the video work for them?

2011 will be a great year for those lawyers who implement their decisions to change. Video marketing should be done smarter, with more knowledge, information and content. Content will rule in 2011. If you lack content and a compelling reason to call you, you will revert back to the startup days of internet marketing. Make this year your most successful one ever.

To your success!"

Gerry

59" x 18" Bookcase with adjustable shelving in wheat & ebony dual finish

Cyber Monday Legare 59-Inch-by-18-Inch Bookcase, Wheat and Ebony Specifications

A fresh take on modular furniture, Legaré offers stylish curvilinear designs crafted of materials that assemble and rearrange with unparalleled ease. In just three minutes or less with no tools, screws, or bolts needed, individual components lock snugly together to become sturdy, stable office and home pieces that will provide many years of high-quality service. Legaré's Select line is made of engineered composite wood with solid-wood surface veneers. Engineered wood, manmade from small wood pieces and adhesives, has several environmental advantages: large panels of wood can be made from small-diameter trees; the use of wood scraps and wood with defects reduces waste; and engineered products are often stronger and less prone to warping from humidity than solid timber. Plus, all the wood Legaré uses is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

This 59-inch-by-18-inch bookcase says a very hip goodbye to standard right angles with its sweeping contoured edges and whimsical puzzle-like design. The unit comes with four 12-inch-wide shelves and eight position options, spaced 6-3/8 inches apart, for either easy customizing or adding extra shelves (sold separately). Four cutouts in back provide concealed cable management, and an oversized top shelf with a back rail makes a nice display spot. Available in a range of colors, from a sophisticated wheat and ebony combination with ash and oak veneers to fun red and black to green and white or pink and white duos for kids' rooms, this bookcase requires only two minutes to assemble and a few seconds to disassemble. Its compact size also makes it great for all kinds of small-space storage like kitchens and bathrooms. Go ahead--move it around as much as needed! Legaré furniture is backed by a three-year warranty. --Kara Karll

How to Build an Inexpensive Goldfish Pond in a Weekend Or Two

How to Build an Inexpensive Goldfish Pond

White Ladder Shelf

Building a small goldfish pond in your yard can be a fun weekend project and the kids will enjoy it all summer. Depending on what climate you live in, the pond will have slightly different requirements for those areas with sub-freezing temperatures. You can however with a little but of junk hunting, build your pond for only a few dollars. In cold winter areas it is important to have a way to drain the pond for the winter to clean it. A drain piping explanation is further down this article.

White Ladder Shelf

First pick the best area of your yard for the pond. You do not want it in full sun or full shade all day. A mixture of the two would be real nice. It will help your plants thrive and also keep the algae growth down as well. I have one pond in partial or mottled shade all day and it does very well and stays perfectly clean. If the pond will have a natural outlet and be filled occasionally with a hose that is about the best scenario you can get. I have a small pond that is filled by a very small underground spring that drips into the pond all the time but it also has an outlet pipe that exits into a wet area so the pond never needs filling of emptying. The small pond measures eight feet long by five feet wide by 2 feet deep. I keep thirty small goldfish in this pond and they do very well. Aside from eating bugs and mosquitoes the kids love to visit every day and put a few pinches of food in for them.

I selected my pond space in a shaded area of my yard near some large Maple trees as I wanted to be able to sit in the shade on hot summer days and enjoy the fish and the sound of the water without being in the full sun. I also built several raised planting beds at different heights around the pond out of flat field stones available on my property. There are many shade tolerant plants including Hostas, Varigated Hostas and Dead Nettle which spread with each passing year and with the different shades of greens and white leaves and purple flowers on the Nettle, the gardens have more then enough visual interest.

Once you have decided how large you want the pond itself, you have really two choices of pond types to choose from. Pre-made PVC pond liners are available in many shapes and sizes today. Many liners have built in plant shelves and light openings if you wish to add lighting to your pond. They range in sizes from a 1/2 barrel to huge ponds which require large filter systems and pumps to run. The small ponds you may be able to excavate by hand, the larger ones will require some heavy equipment like a backhoe perhaps to move that much earth The pond size and heavy equipment will certainly raise your price of course.

Another way to build a pond is to use rubber roofing membrane. You will find articles telling you not to use it because it has chemicals on it etc., etc. I washed mine before using it with a good soapy solution and rinsed it well to remove all soap residues. The membrane comes in twelve foot wide rolls and every time I see a school getting a new roof you can pretty well bet there are large scraps of rubber in the dumpsters. Almost all commercial buildings today use rubber membrane roofing available with some small effort of dumpster diving. Remember the pond should be two feet deep so four feet plus at least six inches on each top are wasted for a total of five feet. That would allow you a seven foot wide pool bottom. Depending on the length of the piece you get, just deduct two and one half feet on each end for the walls and top edging. Twelve foot long pieces would end up seven feet across the bottom. That's a seven foot by seven foot pond, two feet deep. That's a lot of water and can hold a great many goldfish.

I decided that I wanted my last pond raised up instead of flush with the ground. Using flat field stones I built oblong shaped pond walls two feet high. I placed several bags of play sand in the bottom and raked it smooth. Make absolutely sure there are no rocks or sticks in the bottom of the pond area. Any sharp protrusion can poke a hole through the liner material. Be somewhat careful on the sides as well to avoid pointy rocks facing or projecting into the inside of the pond. The water weight will force the liner to assume the shape of the inside walls so keep them as smooth as possible. A friend of mine used masonry stack blocks meant for a retaining wall for his side walls, lined the inside with the membrane and placed finished cap blocks on top. You can sit on top of the wall and watch the gold fish as they dart back and forth.

After installing my liner, I used large flat stones for my cap block after folding the last six inches of membrane over onto to the top of the walls. The folds do not have to be perfect as they will not be seen below the stones but make sure the stones do not rock back and forth when they are in their final positions. You want the cap stones to hang over the inside edge of the wall a couple of inches as well so the liner is not visible where it folds onto the top of the wall. A small portion of the vertical side wall will show depending upon on how high you keep the water level of the pond but the shadow produced by the overhanging cap stones makes it almost invisible. Black liner hides any small folds you leave behind as well. I have not tried white liner although I know they do make it. Goldfish show up very well in black ponds.

Next add a couple of water plants. There are hundreds to choose from and a trip to your local Koi or Garden store will open a whole new gardening experience for you. Many come in pots that are placed directly into your pond. I recommend you presoak the plants until water runs out of the bottom of the pot before placing it into the pond. This will help prevent loose dirt from floating out and making your pond dirty when you sink the pots into the water. The added water weight in the pot may also be required to actually make the pots stay on the bottom. If the plant is too short to reach the waters surface, get creative by adding some flat stones to make the plants work. The fish will love the added little nooks and crevices to hide in during sunny periods or just when they are playing.

If your pond is a closed system meaning no fresh water supply or discharge channel, give some thought as to how you are going to empty the pond for cleaning once a year. It can be done with a sump pump or add a two inch PVC discharge pipe open to free air if it is available. Many locales do not allow you to discharge pond water into the sewer system so be careful. If you have free air, install a two inch PVC pipe under the pond and turn it up into the pond using an elbow. Glue the elbow to the pipe with the proper PVC cement.
Wrap a small plastic bag over the elbow to prevent any sand or dirt getting into the pipe while you build your pond. Bury your pipe and commence building your walls. Once the walls are complete and the base sand is installed, place your liner into place. Using your lightest helper, cut a small X directly over the elbow, but make sure it is smaller then two inches long on each cut. Now carefully push the membrane down around the elbow leaving the rubber as tight as possible on the elbow. Using a stainless steel hose clamp available at any auto parts store, securely clamp the rubber membrane to the elbow making a watertight joint. At the open air end of the pipe install a two inch PVC gate valve. This valve can be opened for draining and cleaning of the pond whenever necessary.

Fill your pond with clean fresh water. I use a small fish tank aerator pump to provide additional oxygen to the fish. The large surface area of the pond should be more than sufficient to aerate the water but the bubble pump will also prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs in the moving surface waters and it can provide yet another pleasant sound at your new goldfish pond. By scrounging both the rocks and membrane I spent a total of for materials for my pond. Goldfish in my area are 27 cents each so twenty nice fish is a grand total of .40. Not bad for a couple days work. Enjoy your new pond and gardening project.
